Heat the oven to 200 Β°C (390 Β°F). Wash the apples carefully, remove the cores and slice them into thin wedges or small cubes.

Arrange the pieces of apple in a shallow oven dish as evenly as possible.

Scatter the ground cinnamon, cardamom and sugar over the apples. Turn the pieces so the spices are distributed evenly. Pour the water into the bottom of the dish.
Spread the oat crumble in an even veil over the spiced apple wedges.

Bake on the middle rack for about 30 minutes, until the apples are soft and cooked through and the topping has taken on a lovely golden colour. Let it rest for a moment before serving.
